The Non-Governmental Organisations Regulatory Authority on Friday joined CONGOMA at its regional meeting for the north in Mzuzu to update northern based NGOs on recent developments in the sector.
During the meeting. NGORA gave updates on the extension of the reporting period from June 30th to July 31st. The Authority therefore requested all NGOs that have not yet managed to submit their reports to take advantage of the extended reporting period and make their submissions.
The Authority also informed NGOs about the upcoming NGO Day that will be hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, community Development and Social Welfare and CONGOMA. The event scheduled for October in Blantyre will have sector meetings three days prior to the actual commemoration to allow participants to present their programmes, achievements and challenges. During these sessions, line Ministries will also provide guidance on alignment to national policy, key priorities and gaps. The sessions will also give participants a platform to identify areas of collaboration.
On regulations, NGORA updated the sector that the regulations were submitted to the Ministry of Justice for gazetting.
The Authority also informed participants at the meeting that it is conducting a capacity gap assessment and requested all NGOs to respond to the survey. NGORA concluded by informing the participants that guidelines for the NGO Fund have been developed and that it will soon call for proposals from NGOs wishing to be funded.
